FAQs

Your most common questions, answered

Why are ethical products important?

The world we live in is changing, and the choices we make as consumers have never mattered more. At The Skin & Tonic Club, we believe that what you put on your skin should be as kind to the planet as it is to you.

Using natural ingredients means avoiding the harsh synthetic chemicals found in many mass-market products — chemicals that can irritate skin, disrupt ecosystems and accumulate in our waterways. Our vegan-friendly formulations contain no animal-derived ingredients, because we believe beauty should never come at the cost of another living creature.

Being cruelty-free means every product we create is developed without animal testing — full stop. And by choosing responsibly manufactured, fully recyclable packaging, we're doing our part to reduce waste and protect the environment for future generations.

Choosing ethical skincare isn't just a personal choice — it's a statement about the kind of world you want to live in. We're proud to stand alongside customers and therapists who share those values.

We are committed to a sustainable planet and a brighter future, and therefore donate 10% of all profits to worthwhile causes.

What ingredients do you use in your products?

All of our products are handmade in the UK using carefully selected natural, skin-loving ingredients. We avoid parabens, sulphates, synthetic fragrances and other harsh chemicals commonly found in mass-market alternatives. Every ingredient is chosen for its efficacy and its safety — for your skin and for the planet.

Are your products suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes — our gentle, natural formulations are designed to be kind to all skin types, including sensitive skin. However, as with any skincare product, we recommend performing a patch test before first use. If you have specific skin concerns or allergies, please check the full ingredient list on each product or contact us for guidance.

Are your products cruelty-free and vegan?

Absolutely. All of our products are 100% cruelty-free and vegan-friendly. We never test on animals and we do not use any animal-derived ingredients in our formulations.

How do I know which products are right for my skin concern?

We've made it easy to shop by skin concern — whether you're dealing with dryness, dullness, fine lines or sensitivity, our Shop by Skin Concern collections are curated to help you find exactly what your skin needs.

What are Peptides and why do you use them in some of your products?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids — the building blocks of proteins such as collagen and elastin, which are essential for keeping skin firm, smooth and youthful. As we age, our natural collagen production slows down, which is where peptides come in.

When applied topically, peptides act as messengers, signalling to the skin to produce more collagen and repair itself. The result is visibly firmer, plumper skin with a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time.

We use peptides in selected products because they are one of the most scientifically supported ingredients in modern skincare — and crucially, they can be derived from natural, vegan-friendly sources, keeping our formulations in line with our ethical values.

Why is Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid so important to good skincare?

Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid are two of the most celebrated ingredients in skincare — and for very good reason. Together, they address two of the most fundamental needs of healthy skin: protection and hydration.

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from environmental damage caused by free radicals — unstable molecules generated by UV exposure, pollution and stress that break down collagen and accelerate the signs of ageing. Beyond protection, Vitamin E is deeply nourishing, helping to strengthen the skin's natural barrier, reduce inflammation and support the healing of dry or damaged skin.

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring molecule found in the skin that has a remarkable ability to attract and retain moisture — holding up to 1,000 times its own weight in water. Applying it topically helps to replenish that moisture, leaving skin visibly smoother, softer and more supple almost immediately.

Used together, they create a powerful duo suitable for all skin types and particularly beneficial for dry, dehydrated, mature or environmentally stressed skin.

What is Pseudo Collagen and how does it help the skin?

Pseudo Collagen is a plant-derived ingredient that mimics the behaviour of natural collagen in the skin. Unlike traditional collagen — which is typically sourced from animals and whose molecules are too large to penetrate the skin's surface — Pseudo Collagen works on the skin's outer layers, delivering visible and immediate benefits.

When applied, it forms a fine, flexible film on the skin's surface that helps to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture and boost radiance. It also helps to lock in moisture, leaving skin feeling soft, plump and comfortable throughout the day.

It is 100% vegan-friendly and particularly well suited to mature, dry or dull skin.

Some of your products are oils. Aren't oils greasy?

It's one of the most common misconceptions in skincare — and the short answer is no, not at all. High-quality natural plant-based oils are typically lightweight and fast-absorbing, often penetrating the skin more quickly and deeply than many traditional creams and lotions.

Their molecular structure is closer to the skin's own natural lipids, meaning the skin recognises them and draws them in readily. Our oils are carefully selected for their skin-compatibility and absorption properties, making them suitable even for combination and oily skin types when used correctly.

What is the Acmella plant that you use in some of your products?

Acmella Oleracea — sometimes called the Toothache Plant or Paracress — is a remarkable flowering plant that has earned the nickname Nature's Botox in the world of natural skincare.

It contains a powerful active compound called Spilanthol, which works by temporarily relaxing the tiny facial muscles responsible for repetitive expressions — the same mechanism targeted by cosmetic Botox injections, but achieved naturally and non-invasively. The result is a gentle tightening and smoothing effect, visibly reducing the appearance of expression lines and wrinkles.

It is 100% plant-based, vegan-friendly and completely in keeping with our philosophy of harnessing the power of nature to care for your skin.

Can natural products be as effective on my skin as chemical ones?

Absolutely — and in many cases, more so. Many of the most powerful compounds used in modern skincare — including Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, retinoids and alpha hydroxy acids — are either derived directly from natural sources or were originally discovered in nature.

At The Skin & Tonic Club, we harness ingredients like Acmella Oleracea, Pseudo Collagen, Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E — all chosen because the science supports their effectiveness. We publish the full ingredient list on every single product, so you always know exactly what you're putting on your skin.
